DADDY, I Love You to the Moon and Back!

Daddy asked, “How much do you love me?”

Little boy replied, “DADDY, I love you to the moon and back! Then will you bring me to Marina Barrage with my friends please?”

Daddy enquired, “When?”

Little boy answered, “On 19 June 2015. My teacher told me that we will be having a Father’s Day celebration there. She also mentioned that we can fly kites, blow bubbles, kick balls and scoot around.”

Daddy smiled and kissed the litle boy while whispering, “Certainly.”

Bright and sunny (extremely) weather on the morning of 19 June 2015 to welcome our Niwa-ians and their doting fathers (and mothers too) at Marina Barrage! Are your ready for the party? Oh yes!

“OOOooo… look at the kite in the sky.”

“Yeah, I am happy to be part of the Niwa Family.”

“LET ME HAVE A TURN.”

“My daddy is the best at flying kite.”

“Tricia, give it a try too.”

“Alden, let papa help you.”

“Uncle Darren, look at the kite.”

“Bubbles, bubbles in the air.”

“Mama, we are hungry now. Can we start eating?”

“So yummy……”

“Thank you, Daddy Gary!”

“Thank you, Daddy Welsey.”

“Ball ball, ball ball.”

“Thank you, Daddy Darren.”

“Mama, I want to feed you.”

“Torres, can we share the bubbles gun?”

“Mama, look at me! I can scoot so fast.”

“Quick, Blossom!”

“Happy Father’s Day, Papa Ling!”

“Shall I share the ball with Chervelle?”

“Pass the ball to me, Alden.”

“Tricia, want to play bubbles together?”

“Tricia’s turn.”

“Torres, drink water. The weather is hot.”

“Kite flying is my forte.”

“Let Ms. Evelyn help you!”

“Why is the bee hoon so yummy?”

“No, Cherv’s ball ball…”

“Papa, can I try myself?”

“I shoot you with the bubbles gun.”

“Pass me the ball, Uncle Welsey.”

“Cherv, you want the kick the ball?”

“Goodness, that girl can kick.”

“MOM! I need a cold drink.”

“Who want to play ball with me?”

“TM’s water.”

“Alakay, can you catch the ball?”

“Mei mei, do you need help?”

“Alden, am I looking tan?”

“Yes, Cayden. I cannot even open my eyes.”

Our Niwa-ians like their food raw…

When we think of raw food, we have a lovely image of this.

And it makes us all go hungry now, probably thinking about some nice places to hunt for good food. For sashimi lovers, they will be trying hard to contain their hunger by now.

A home-made recipe with Microgreens that can be eaten fresh (raw)! Tadaa!

As part of our parenting workshop, the Niwa-ians and their families also got the opportunity to try different recipes that were created with fresh (raw) ingredients, including ‘avocado’, ‘seaweed’, ‘cucumber’, ‘dou miao’ and ‘apple’.

If you are all in for a ‘green’ lifestyle, read on to learn more about these fuss-free cooking experiences that are also very easy for full-time working parents!

This was how we started with the first recipe.

“You can just eat these ‘dou miao’ raw.”

“Add some sauce to create flavour for the food.”

“If you like, you can try these rice crackers. I bought them from Cold Storage and they are really good food in replacement of wheat.”

“Let us add the peanut butter into the bowl.”

“We give it a mix.”

“Come, let me help.”

“I can’t wait. Let me try the dou miao first.”

“We can cut the cucumber into slices quickly.”

“TM, try this. This is yummy.”

“Yummmmmmm……”

“Ms. Vivienne, can I try one too?”

“Mei mei’s turn!”

“Now, for another recipe that is coming up.”

“Let’s try the sauce first. Can you give me one of your fists?”

‘Fist-licking good!!!”

“Desiree, nice?”

“We are now ready to add the sauce onto the cucumber slices.”

“I cannot stop eating the rice crackers. They are so good. Mama, can you buy some for me?”

“The second recipe is ready for serving.”

“Hurray!!! Let us try the (raw) food now! So yummy……”

“I never know (raw) food can taste this good (when sharing with my Blossom).”

“Oh yes! (raw) Food is heavenly.”

“Desiree, come, take a bite.”

“Now, let us prepare the salad with apples and avocado that we can top with ‘sunflower microgreens’!”

“Another healthy (raw) food recipe is ready within mintues.”

“Mommy, let me feed you some!!!”

“This recipe is for friends who like their food cooked.”

“First, we add some egg tofu.”

“And we just add the fresh ‘dou miao.”

“Finally, a cooked dish that is ready for the Niwa-ians.”

Day-Out to Singapore Changi Airport

Let the Niwa-ians tell you a story, a story about a school day of Niwa Schoolhouse that was filled with so much fun, laughter and joy.

“We are going to Singapore Changi Airport. Niwa-ians, are you ready?”

The boys exclaimed, “Hurray! Yes!”

The girls replied, “Us too!”
And they offered their brightest smile for the camera.

The photographer said, “Let’s go!”

The team took a group photograph at the entrance of Niwa Schoolhouse before boarding the bus.

“Let’s hold hands!”

“Yeah, we are going to Singapore Changi Airport!”

“We can hardly wait to reach Singapore Changi Airport.”

“I like going on the big bus.”

“I am able to buckle the seat belt by myself.”

“I am a big boy now. I can sit by myself.”

“Vroom, vroom and off we go!”

During the bus ride, the Niwa-ians were tasked with a ‘mission’ that was to search for a list of pictures from a checklist, such as the ‘Flight Information Board’, the ‘runway’ and the ‘aeroplanes’.

Finally, the Niwa-ians and the teachers arrived at Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 after a 30 minutes journey. They were all geared up to start their adventure once they stepped foot into the ‘Arrival Hall’.

“We can go this way to find the ‘check-in counters’.

“How about taking a lift to the ‘Departure Hall’ first?”

“We are right beside the ‘check-in counters’.”

“Remember we saw the ‘Control Tower’ on our way here?”

“I have found the ‘Flight Information Board’ right up there.”

“Buddy, look! We are at the ‘Departure Hall’ right now.”

“Where can I find the conveyor belt?”

“I found it.”

“Let’s take a rest. We are tired from all the walking.”

“Me too.”

“And me.”

“I am not and I can still continue our adventure.”

“Look at all the luggages moving on the conveyor belt.”

“We need to find the ‘runway’ and the ‘aeroplanes’ soon.”

“Finally, we have completed the ‘mission’.”

It was time for the rewards where the Niwa-ians were invited to the playground for some good physical fun! Yippe!

“Do you want to join me?”

“Sure, let me walk down the stairs.”

“I will wait for you here.”

“Here I come!”

“Hello from the bridge!”

“I can spy you.”

“Where are you?”

“I am playing with the see-saw.”

“I like playing with see-saw, let’s go!”

“Can I have a turn too please?”

“Ok, I am coming too.”

“I need to do this slowly.”

“Where did you say you were?”

“We are here and we are ready to eat our lunch.”

Soon, the Niwa-ians were famished from the exercises and they requested to have their lunch. Just then, the airport prams were in sight and the Little Tots got just lucky to enjoy a ride.

“I am the lucky girl.”

“I love the ride.”

“Can I come down now?”

At McDonald’s, the Niwa-ians were treated to a special ‘Happy Meal’ that comes with a surprise toy, a nugget set, some fries and corn cups for sharing. No wonder the little ones finished up the goodies in no time.

“I love the corn cup. It is so healthy.”

“Second nugget and it will be finished in a few mouthfuls.”

“I agree for the nuggets are so delicious.”

“The nuggets with ketchup is a must for me.”

“The Ribena drink is awesome.”

“I love yummy corn cup.”

“Want to share my fries?”

“Yes, please.”

So, the Niwa-ians headed back to their Niwa Schoolhouse after an eventful field trip to Singapore Changi Airport. They were all tired but happy.

Welcome to Urban Greens!

In conjunction with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, Niwa Schoolhouse embarked on a new community project titled as ‘Urban Greens’, together with Microgreenssg and The Healing Concierge as our partners.

15 May 2015 marked the first plant-in of the Microgreens seedlings for our Niwa-ians. Within the school campus of Niwa Schoolhouse, we made space to create a very special growing station that promises abundant sunlight for the plants. What a brilliant way of shouting “Planting in the Garden”, as Niwa means ‘garden’ in the Japanese language.

We are also very privileged to have Ms. Khai Lin from Microgreenssg to personally demonstrate the planting process of the unique seeds of the sunflower and the pea plant. To our great amazement, the older children were excited to be involved in a discussion about the conditions for the seeds to germinate.

The hands-on planting experience proved to be a great learning point for the little ones to explore with peat-moss soil, as they love to ‘pat’ the soil with tender loving touches to set a good foundation bed for the micro-seedlings. Furthermore, the children love to use the water spray bottle in watering the seedlings. It simply amazed them as they observed the process.

Now, the micro-seedlings are well-rested into their ‘bed’ and the children have been tasked with the responsibility of watering them twice a day. Read on to find out more.

Easter Bunnies’ Hunt for the Easter Eggs

What a beautiful and sunny morning for our young Niwa-ians’s ‘Easter Egg Hunt’ at Woodlands Neighbourhood Park! In high spirits, the children left Niwa Schoolhouse happily with their ‘Easter Bunny Basket’ in anticipation of filling them up with the surprise goodies in store for them!

At the park, the teacher led the children with warm-up exercise using the familiar Easter songs, ‘Hot Cross Buns’ and ‘The Way the Bunny Hops’. Thereafter, the children embarked on their ‘mission’ in search for the well-hidden eggs all around the park. Dashing as fast as their legs could bring them, the yummy and colourful Easter eggs were found within minutes. Three cheers!
